They all took very divergent career paths, both to Cincinnati, and to their new careers. UC’s Coach Uses Golf to Open Doors

Once considered a gentleman’s sport, golf is now the most common leisure activity among executive women. With the advent of Title IX more women than ever have the chance to play. UC Coach Janet Carl is driven to create opportunities for her student athletes so that golf continues to open many doors.

 

 

The University of Cincinnati’s men’s and women’s golf coach, Janet Carl, is using her position as one of only six coaches in the U.S. to head both a men’s and women’s team to create those opportunities. Janet oversees both teams; she provides day-to-day-coaching for the women’s team while Doug Martin travels with the men’s team. Since her arrival at UC, Janet has brought continuous improvement to the team’s standings in the Big East. (more…)

Tracey Conway was 38 when her life changed forever. The Emmy-winning actress was taping a television comedy show in Seattle when she literally dropped dead from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Twenty minutes later a paramedic shocked her heart into beating again. Tracey’s inspiring, informative talk “Drop Dead Gorgeous!” is the keynote feature at the Go Red for Women Empowerment Luncheon May 2 at the Savannah Center. (more…)

“20 million people in the U.S. have diabetes and about a third of them don’t even know it,” says Mercedes Falciglia. She’s on a mission to change that.

Caused by high blood sugar levels resulting from the body’s inability to produce or use insulin, diabetes is the nation’s fifth leading cause of death by disease. Why focus on diabetes? “It’s such a common condition, with rates on the rise,” she said. “It increases the risk of developing serious complications such as heart disease, blindness, and kidney disease and is a tremendous economic burden. Recently high blood sugar during hospitalization, whether you have diabetes or not, has become a hot topic because it can affect the outcome of your hospital stay, regardless of why you are there.” (more…)

Her smile is always welcoming, even with the futures of 5,700 students weighing constantly on her mind. As Superintendent of the Sycamore Community School District, Adrienne James, Ed.D. is responsible not only for the immense student population, but also managing a $70 million budget while overseeing a staff of nearly 800. Her caring nature is evident as she looks forward to making an impact on a larger scale within the education system. The dream she harbors for each student is one of success and her unrelenting determination will certainly drive those around her to make that dream a reality. (more…)

A vibrant personality coupled with her grace and beauty are just a few of the reasons why Cheryl Ladd remains a star in Tinseltown. Cheryl, 55, has come a long way from her days as one of “Charlie’s Angels”. She is the author of Token Chick: A Woman’s Guide to Golfing with the Boys, an autobiographical tale recounting her experiences with golf. Friday nights on NBC, her smile lights up the small screen starring opposite James Caan in “Las Vegas”. On a personal note, Cheryl and her husband, Brian Russell, have reason to celebrate as they recently welcomed their first grandson to the family. (more…)

It was Go Red’s signature red dress that caught her eye. Kim first heard of the Go Red for Women campaign while she was visiting a friend in Oklahoma City and instantly knew it was something she wanted to be involved with. Getting the message out that heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States is very close to Kim. Her father suffered a massive heart attack at the age of 49 and lived the next 20 years of his life with only half the use of his heart muscle. Witnessing her family go through such an ordeal ignited her passion to increase awareness of this deadly disease. (more…)
